Timeline:

January 2021 - ongoing

Objectives:

To explore and quantify the costs of migration in Pacific salmon, with particular focus on populations at risk, such as Early Stuart sockeye salmon.

Funding:

Villum International Postdoc; Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Results:

Thus far, we've tagged 80 fish from three species (Sockeye, Chinook and Pink Salmon) with accelerometer tags to track their migration past two areas of difficult passage (Hell's Gate and Big Bar), and all the way to their spawning grounds. Analyses are ongoing.
